AN EYEWITNESS TESTIMONY by Sandi Wade-Janik 12/16/17
As I read my Bible this morning, for the ‘umpteenth’ time, certain Scriptures jumped out at me! I had actually meant to be in 1 Peter 1:16-25 for my daily study, but opened and read 2 Peter 1:16. Accident? I don’t think so. I have read this book many times and enjoyed Bible studies in this book, but this morning GOD opened my eyes to the fact that Peter was giving his testimony about personally knowing Jesus in the flesh! GOD reminded me about how many times I have told my grandchildren and children about being with my dad working cows, and better yet…telling them about my Spiritual experiences in the Holy Spirit when I was with my grandmother many years ago? My grandchildren nor my children knew my grandmother nor my dad but my testimony brings reality of their life on earth. My testimonies of real people, and real experiences.
The Bible gives us an account of those that came before us, the reality of life before us…even to the reality that Jesus Christ was born, lived in the flesh and performed miracles as He spread the Good News, and how He came to be the Savior of the World.
We must never allow anyone, nor anything to cause us to doubt. As we come nearer to Christmas day and we finalize our decorating, shopping, and celebrating at parties…let us look up and remember the child that was born of GOD’s Spirit and the virgin Mary… that became a man and walked amongst the people. Let us know He lives…Let us know He is real! I urge you to find a quiet place to speak to Jesus and allow Him to lead you as He did His disciples. He is born, He lives, He is waiting to hear from us all.
Peter’s Eyewitness Testimony of Christ our Lord and footnotes following. Copied from the Amplified Bible.
2 PETER 1:16-21 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories or myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were [a]eyewitnesses of His majesty [His grandeur, His authority, His sovereignty]. 17 For when He was invested with honor and [the radiance of the [b]Shekinah] glory from God the Father, such a voice as this came to Him from the [splendid] Majestic Glory [in the bright cloud that overshadowed Him, saying], [c]“This is My Son, My Beloved Son in whom I am well-pleased and delighted”— 18 and we [actually] heard this voice made from heaven when we were together with Him on the holy mountain.
19 So we have the prophetic word made more certain. You do well to pay [close] attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and light breaks through the gloom and the [d]morning star arises in your hearts. 20 [e]But understand this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of or comes from one’s own [personal or special] interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
1. 2 Peter 1:16 A reference to the transfiguration (Matt 17:1-13 *Peter was there and this is a wonderful study)
2. 2 Peter 1:17 The word “Shekinah” does not appear in Scripture, but has been used by both Christians and Jews to describe the visible divine Presence of God (the brilliant light of the divine), in such things as the burning bush, the cloud and the pillar of fire that led the Hebrews in the wilderness, and the Presence of God that rested between the cherubim over the mercy seat of the ark.
3. 2 Peter 1:17 With these words God affirms the deity of Jesus and His divine essence.
4. 2 Peter 1:19 Lit light-bringer.
5. 2 Peter 1:20 Or For you know.
As we approach that day we celebrate the ‘Birth of Jesus’ may we behold first the Majesty of our GOD. The Love He has for us and the blessings we have from Him. Let us reflect on the reason GOD sent His Word to become His fleshly Son and the Savior of the world. Let us wrap ourselves in His Love until our heart is full and overflowing in the love that He desires for us to pass forward. May GOD provide you with safe journeys, good health, happy hearts and a life everlasting because you Believe in His Son!
With much love in my heart through Christ our Risen Lord and Savior,
